controlled Analgesia with Morphine |
- Advantages
- Allow patient to take an active role in the care
- Less dependent on nurses to deliver the next dose
- Use of Meripidine is discouraged due to potential accumulation of active
metabolites that can cause seizure
- Start with 1 - 2 mg q 15 min prn, up to 12 mg /hr
- Provide MS Contin 1 hour before stopping the pump
- Patient education & necessary precautions

- 30-60 mg IM, then 15-30 mg q6h, followed by oral dose 10 mg q6-8h
- Less effective than Opiod
