Red flag that this is not a primary mood disorder
  • Lack of family history of mood disorder
  • Onset of symptoms after 40 years old
  • Associated symptoms suggestive of medial illness
Endocrine Thyroid disease
Neurologic Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, other degenerative disease
Neoplastic Lymphatic, gastrointestinal, gynecologic
Medications
  • Progesterone containing contraceptives
  • Corticosteroid
  • Most antihypertensives
  • Sedatives & alcohol, both use and withdraw
  • Phenothiazines
  • Cimetidine
  • Indomethacin
  • Thallium, Mercury
  • Cyclosporine
  • Chemotherapeutic agents: Vincristine, Vinblastine, Amphotericin B, Interferon
